Maximilian is the youngest pack leader that Vargulf has ever had, since he acceded his father's rank upon his death when Max was 19. Many rose to challenge the boy, but none ever succeeded. He had both his parents pure Alpha blood running through him, and he was the rightful leader to the pack, no matter the age or what anyone else said. During one of the fights for his throne, his wolf nearly lost an eye from a challenger, resulting in the scar that stands out prominently from his fur. His colors are odd among his pack, which are mainly black, white, and brown. He gets the coloring from his mother, who was an elusive red wolf, but still retains some of the darker coloring from his father since his paws are all black. While his mother's eyes were a deep blue, he inherited his father's rare bright forest green eyes. It is these eyes that have enemies quaking in fear when they see them from the darkness of the forest. He prefers his large wolf form above all else, but some affairs have to be done as a human, which are not his favorite tasks.

His parents deaths were a result of the huge war going on with the vampires and humans, and Max holds a strong grudge, even today. He normally wouldn't result to such violence like mercenary work when the men in his pack could be sticking together, but he sees no harm in it as long as it gets rid of both humans and vampires alike. In his eyes, all are to blame for the sheer horror that rocked his pack when his parents bodies were found torn to pieces. Mercenary work is also good income since his pack comes first above all else, and they reserve money to help them live another day. In such a hellish world that he has grown up in, he does not believe in having any true mate to call his own. He supposed that if his parents had lived, he would be more carefree, but since he is a leader now, he rules with an iron fist.

Those in his own pack never dare to oppose him after he proved his strength against them. He closes off all emotions to run his pack effectively, but he cares for each member of his large wolf family. Max himself does not go out on mercenary missions since he must remain with the pack to keep order and balance among the members. He usually remains among his pack, but casually ventures out to small towns that are nearby for some peace and quiet or for a drink.
